Portraiture is one of the oldest and most enduring forms of art precisely because it never stops being personal — a painted face carries presence in a way few other objects can. Our fine art collection includes two very different approaches to the form.

Our vintage portrait is a beautifully executed example of traditional portrait painting — the kind of considered, carefully rendered work that was once a staple of formal interiors, where a painted likeness held the place a photograph might occupy today.

A more contemporary counterpoint sits alongside it: our Gora gouache painting of a seated woman, depicting its subject with vibrant red hair in a soft expressionist style. Painted in gouache on paper by the artist Gora and presented in a gold frame with a white mat, it trades the formality of traditional portraiture for looser, more emotive brushwork — proof that the genre never stopped evolving.

Displayed together or apart, both pieces do what portraiture has always done: hold a room’s attention with a single human face.
