How buying works on this website
The website shows our pieces and their prices. It does not take online payments and has no shopping cart or checkout. If you would like to buy a piece, you contact us through the enquiry form on the product page, by WhatsApp, through Instagram, by phone or by email, and the purchase is arranged directly with us.
What we collect and why
Enquiry form (“Enquire to purchase”)
When you send an enquiry about a product, we receive the details you enter: your full name, phone number, email address and, if you add one, your message. The enquiry also includes the name, product number and web address of the piece you asked about, and records that you agreed to this privacy policy. Your enquiry is sent by email to info@silkroadantique.com. We use these details to reply to you and to arrange a purchase if you decide to buy.
Contact form
When you use the contact form on our Home or Contact page, we receive your full name, phone number, email address, the subject you choose and your message. It is sent to our email inbox, and we use it to reply to you.
WhatsApp and Instagram
Product pages have buttons that open a WhatsApp chat with +971 55 161 3361 (with the product name and link already written in the message) and a message to our Instagram account, @silkroad.antiques. The Instagram button first copies the product name and link to your device’s clipboard so you can paste it into your message; this copy stays on your device. If you use WhatsApp or Instagram, you leave our website, and your messages are handled by those services (both run by Meta) under their own privacy policies. We see what you send us and the details shown on your WhatsApp or Instagram profile, and we use them to reply to you.
Product reviews
If you leave a review on a product, we collect the name, email address, rating and review you enter, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. Your email address is not shown publicly. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your review, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your review.
Embedded content from other websites
Our Contact page shows an embedded Google Maps map. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Cookies
- Our shop software sets cookies that record how you arrived at the website (for example from a search engine or a social media link).
- If you add pieces to your wishlist, a cookie is used to remember them.
- If you leave a review you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another review. These cookies will last for one year.
- If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
Who can see your details
Your enquiries and messages are read by the members of our team who reply to them. The people who manage our website can also see product reviews. Our website is hosted by Hostinger.
How long we keep your details
We keep your enquiries and messages for as long as needed to reply to you, to arrange any purchase you ask for, and to meet our legal obligations. Product reviews stay on the website with the product they are about.
Your rights
